We will be working on these this at our Second Saturdays at Crossroads Ministry Center, please join us! Capes of Courage: Spider Man was once told: “With great power comes great responsibility,” and for Second Saturday, that responsibility includes making capes for little heroes fighting a different kind of battle. We may have “sampled” this quote from a 2014 news article, but Second Saturday is ready for the challenge! It’s not unusual for a child to dream about becoming a super-hero who saves the day! These little ones share one character trait with Superman or Wonder Woman: COURAGE! When children are sick and in the hospital, have disabilities, or are encountering physical or emotional challenges a Cape of Courage can go a long way in making a scary situation a little less so. These kids are the real super heroes of our world! Capes of Courage are designed to comfort and empower children during challenging times. They are distributed to hospitals, first responders, schools, and families. Second Saturday’s Capes of Courage project is modeled after the Northampton United Methodist Church’s Kids Capes of Courage ministry that was started in 2013 by Debby Rowland. It’s estimated that nearly 3,000 capes are provided annually to children who need a little courage. Second Saturday needs a super-hero. Are you that hero? Donate your time! Join us on the Second Saturday of each month or cut patterns and sew from home! Donate gift cards! Gift cards from JoAnn Fabric or Hobby Lobby are the most useful. Donate Fabric and Notions! We need: Juvenile Cotton Fabric (Boys and Girls) NO SMALLER than 1-1/3 YD Cut Solid Flannel Fabric NO SMALLER than 1-1/3 YD Cut Felt Squares of all colors Sew-on Velcro, any color Thread, any color, beige, or white Disappearing Fabric Marking Pens or Pencils Donate Money: Please make your checks out to Lancaster First United Methodist Church for Second Saturday. For more information on this new project, please contact Gina Pressler or Judy Kraft.

Grandparent’s Sunday, October 31st

We will celebrate Grandparent’s Sunday at both worship services on October 31st this year. It’s a 5th Sunday of the month, so children can be in worship with their grandparents that day. At the end of our worship services, we will offer an opportunity to have pictures taken with grandchildren and grandparents!

So, kids, bring your grandparents (or friends and neighbors who are like grandparents!), and grandparents bring your grandchildren, so we can all worship together on October 31st!

Do not cast me off in the time of old age; do not forsake me when my strength is spent.                                                                Psalm 71:9 (NRSV)

Would you like to be part of a team to offer worship at Lanfair Nursing and Rehabilitation Center? Individuals or small groups can offer scripture and a message to a group of residents who typically grew up in the church and can no longer attend. You could also accompany one of the existing team members, who could also serve as mentors to new team members. Although this opportunity is offered monthly, those serving in this ministry would be scheduled to visit only 2-3 times each year. Due to the present COVID regulations, only persons who are fully-vaccinated and 18 years of age or older may visit. You can be a part of enriching another’s spiritual life – and yours as well! Interested? Questions? Contact Judy Hug at the church for more information.

A reminder that cyber-criminals and con artists are using more and more technology to scam people. Please know that should you ever receive an email or text from anyone on staff asking for money or gift-cards, it’s not from the staff. Should you receive an email or text or are ever in doubt, please feel free to call the church at 740-653-3330, and we will take the appropriate action. Thank you!
