Local Missions

Drive-Thru Dinners

On Wednesdays, we welcome and encourage everyone to come and enjoy a home-cooked meal at Crossroads. All meals include a dessert, fresh garden salad, homemade rolls and beverages.

First Community Kitchen

A unique outreach ministry of First United Methodist Church, the First Community Kitchen serves a free lunch on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at 12 noon. The lunch is prepared by volunteers with love, and friendship. Volunteers welcome the guests, prepare the lunch, serve the lunch, visit with the guests and clean up the kitchen and dining area after lunch, The experience of those who come to enjoy the meal is one of fellowship and affirmation.

Other Local Ministries

2nd Saturday is on break during January & February, but please make plans to join us on March 9th as we resume activities for 2024. Projects for March include making pillowcases for Santa Rich Ministries, Sweet Treats deliveries, and making no-sew scarves and lip balm to hand out to the homeless guests at First Community Kitchen. There is a project for all ages and experience levels! If you would like to learn more information on the 2nd Saturday ministry, contact
Judy Kraft at judykraft@love-first.org.

Coins For Christ This ministry donates loose change from the Sunday offering each month. Recent local charity recipients were: Allen Chapel Church, Special Olympics, Habitat for Humanity, Central Ohio Youth for Christ, Faith in Action, The Special Wish Foundation and our local chapter of the Red Cross.

Monthly Shelter Meals Meals are provided to our community’s Emergency Shelter the first Wednesday of each month.

Back to School Drive: The Local Missions Team holds their annual “Back to School Drive” each July. We collect new school supplies to help area children get off to a great start this fall.

Angel Tree

Each Advent season we provide Christmas gifts for needy families in our community.

Community Action Pantry The last Sunday of each month, our congregation collects and donates household items and personal care items to the Fairfield County Community Action. Items that we collect on the last Sunday of the month include toilet paper, paper towels, laundry detergent, dishwasher detergent, liquid dish soap, cleaning supplies, toothpaste, bar soap, and deodorant–items which cannot be purchased at the store with government assistance. There is a collection box in the Parlor for your donations.

Outreach Sewing Ministry
By sewing simple items, this ministry provides help to the Fairfield Medical Center in several ways. Comfort Bears can be created for young patients who are comforted by hugging these soft bears. Infants admitted through the ER often need blankets they can be wrapped in when they return home.

Loving Lending

Spider Man was once told: “With great power comes great responsibility,” and for Second Saturday, that responsibility includes making capes for little heroes fighting a different kind of battle.
We may have “sampled” this quote from a 2014 news article, but Second Saturday is ready for the challenge! It’s not unusual for a child to dream about becoming a super-hero who saves the day! These little ones share one character trait with Superman or Wonder Woman: COURAGE! When children are sick and in the hospital, have disabilities, or are encountering physical or emotional challenges a Cape of Courage can go a long way in making a scary situation a little less so. These kids are the real super heroes of our world! Capes of Courage are designed to comfort and empower children during challenging times. They are distributed to hospitals, first responders, schools, and families.
Second Saturday’s Capes of Courage project is modeled after the Northampton United Methodist Church’s Kids Capes of Courage ministry that was started in 2013 by Debby Rowland. It’s estimated that nearly 3,000 capes are provided annually to children who need a little courage.
Second Saturday needs a super-hero. Are you that hero?
Donate your time! Join us on the Second Saturday of each month or cut patterns and sew from home!
Donate gift cards! Gift cards from JoAnn Fabric or Hobby Lobby are the most useful.

If you would like to be a part of the Second Saturday ministry, make plans to join us for our next meeting at 8:30 a.m. at Crossroads. Many projects for young and old alike! No experience is necessary, just a heart to help others in our community. If you have any questions, please contact Judy Kraft at 740-653-3330.

Every day is a Second Saturday! Make plans to join us each 2nd Saturday of the month at Crossroads Ministry Center, 2095 West Fair Ave. to dive into new and continuing projects! In order to meet our volunteers’ and community’s needs, Second Saturday doesn’t need to occur on a Saturday. Some volunteers need to work from home while still others cannot commit to Saturday. We’ll still meet on the Second Saturday of every month for planning and some projects, but we will also be doing other projects as volunteers are available throughout the month. Are you one of those who can pitch in when the need arises?

Hey Kids! Second Saturday even has special projects designed especially for you that make a difference in the world around us. We even made lip balm for the homeless. Come check us out!!
