Worship

We look forward to you joining us in worship! We welcome you to come as you are to praise, worship and grow in your faith. Is this your first visit? Here’s what to expect.

Celebration Worship

Sundays – 9 a.m.
Sunday Celebration Worship includes hymns lead by our pipe organ, use of hymnals, music from our choirs, pastors wearing robes, and other elements sometimes considered to be “traditional.”

Praise Worship

Sundays – 10:30 a.m.
Sunday Praise Worship includes praise songs and hymns led by our praise band and singers, with most songs and group readings projected on a screen. Pastors usually don’t wear robes, and they present a Children’s Time where the children gather in the front of the sanctuary.

The Gathering

Wednesdays – 6 p.m. – Crossroads
The Gathering worship at Crossroads is a smaller, more informal setting to experience the week’s scriptures and message.

Sunday School

Sunday school and Christian education classes are held for nursery through adult, no matter where you are in your faith journey. View our class schedule here.

Youth Services

We invite our youth in junior and senior high school to attend our weekly group gatherings and special events. View our youth events here.

Worship Happenings

A time of gratitude! After a couple of months, it’s safe to say the new programming year has had a great start, and our church’s worship life continues to be vital and Spirit-filled. Our “new normal” of providing both in-person and online worship combines to provide good attendance numbers, and we have been delighted to continue to see people returning to our sanctuary. We are grateful for worship visitors who have come to experience what worship at First UMC has to offer, and we were very happy to welcome a wonderful class of new members recently.

Our choirs have returned with a good number of musicians, and all of our music ministries continue to enliven our worship experiences. Our acolyte program is even beginning its revival, with youth acolytes serving on the first Sunday of each month. We’ve experienced many “special” Sundays in our church liturgical year, and there are special things happening in worship regularly.

In addition to our Sunday morning worship at our main building, our congregation continues to offer worship opportunities at Crossroads, with Crossroads Community on Tuesday evenings, The Gathering on Wednesday evenings, and Messy Church on the 2nd Sunday afternoon of each month. There is worship available to fit most schedules in this busy world in which we live. We continue to pray that God will use us to lead people to Him when we gather.

Mark your calendars for upcoming special worship events on Christmas Eve or Christmas Eve-Eve, and we plan to bring back our Jazzy New Year’s Eve worship this year. Watch for details as we get closer to time.

We are always in need of persons to serve as ushers or greeters at our worship times. We invite you to pray about it and see if God might be calling you to put your faith into action in this way.

We are grateful for all the ways First UMC continues to worship, and in this time of Thanksgiving, may we always be ready, as a blessed people, to make the time to worship the God from whom all blessings flow!

Become Part of an Usher Team! We are always on the lookout for people who are willing to serve in this very important ministry. How about YOU?

Our ushers serve as part of a team at the worship time they usually attend. There are three usher teams which each serve one month at a time, alternating, so four months per year. The ushers distribute bulletins and make people feel welcome as they arrive for worship, participating almost as worship hosts. They collect our offerings by passing the offering plates. They stick around for just a few minutes and make sure the sanctuary is in order after the worship time. That’s it!

If you have a welcoming personality and are willing to serve your church in this way, let Clarence McCoy know. Call

740-653-3330, ext. 1003, email clarencemccoy@love-first.org, or just talk to Clarence at church. “Whoever serves me, the Father will honor” John 12:26b
